What is a "common law" marriage?
A "common law", or informal, marriage is a marriage whereby a man and woman agree to be married and after the agreement they lived together in Texas as husband and wife and and there represented to others that they were married. A person may not be a party to an informal marriage if that person is under 18 years of age or is currently married to another person.
